AMY BURNETTE (Director/Owner)
Amy Burnette's love of dance and the arts began as
a young child learning in her mother's studio. The minute she was old
enough to assist and teach Amy was helping her mom with classes and
choreography. To further her expertise, she attended Oklahoma City
University where she graduated Summa Cum Laude with a Bachelor of
Performing Arts. Before graduation she had already secured her first
professional job performing as a Follies Girl in Crazy For You at
North Shore Music Theatre. During this time Amy auditioned for the
World Famous Radio City Rockettes and became part of a living legend for
11 straight years.
Amy's experience and passion for the arts has lead her to follow in her
mother's footsteps and create a dance and performing art's school. She
feels like Jersey City is a thriving arts community but lacks a
professional quality studio where children can learn and grow in the
performing arts. Her developmental program builds confidence,
self-esteem, & coordination to create a well rounded whole artist.
Amy and her staff will provide professional quality instruction in a
supportive, non-competitive environment to all levels, from recreational
GINA MAZZARELLA –
a New Jersey native, recently received a BFA in dance from Marymount
Manhattan College. She was a cast member in the Broadway National Tour
of ~Crazy For You~
directed by Broadway choreographer Joey McNealy. Gina is currently a
principle dancer with Synthesis Dance Project, a New York City based
contemporary jazz company directed by Tracie Stanfield. SDP has lead her
to have performed at the Dancing From The Heart Benefit in Hollywood,
FL, The Los Angeles Dance Invitational, The Cool New York Dance
Festival, The International Dance Festival NYC, DUMBO Arts Festival and
Carnival Choreographers Ball. On the musical theatre stage she has been
seen in Broadway Bares 19 and 20, The Elan Awards honoring Susan
Stroman, Ann Reinking and Rob Marshall, Broadway on Broadway 2009, Damn Yankees, The Merry Widow, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, Grease and Guys & Dolls.
Industrial performances include the 2009 Buick commercials and
promotional media, The Veiw with Hilary Duff, The US Open, Fashion Weeks
Dance Scene and Dance As Life: Volume One.
KEISA PARRISH – began her dance training at the age of 11 in Los Angeles with Paul and Arlene Kennedy of Universal Dance Designs where she performed with the likes of Michael Jackson and Cece Winans. She then moved on to study with Cyd Glover-Hill, of Hawthorne Dance Academy/Art in Motion, who choreographed the solo that won her the title Miss Hal Jackson Talented Teen International California State Queen 1995. Keisa attended the LA County High School of the Arts, where she was mentored by Karon Brown Lehman, and performed, with a leading role in Debbie Allen's "Pepito Story." While earning a BFA degree from Fordham University’s joint program with The Ailey® School, and performing in The Ailey School’s Spring Gala piece choreographed by Ronald K. Brown,she became a Radio City Rockette. During Keisa's four seasons with the Radio City Rockettes, she performed in the Christmas Spectacular and made special appearances all over the tri-state area. Since residing in New York City she has performed with Genesis Dance Company, Laverne Reed Productions, Tattooed Ballerinas, Jette Dance and more. Keisa has judged Dance Competitions all over the tri-state area and has been teaching and choreographing for the past 16 years and her various schools include Harlem School of the Arts, Dancer's Inc, Pathway to the Arts, New York City Board of Education, (E)motion by Design, Hal Jackson's Talented Teens International Competition and The Rockette Experience. And she is now the proud parent of Aden Parrish, who she names as her inspiration.
MICHELLE PFRIENDER – graduated
with a BFA in Dance from Mason Gross School of the Arts Rutgers
University and was awarded the Margarie Turner Choreography Prize in
2001. Since then, she has enjoyed performing with John Evans and
Dancers, The Julia Ritter Performance Group and has been a member of the
Cleo Mack Dance Project since 2001, performing in New York, New Jersey
and Canada. Michelle has taught ballet, tap, hip-hop and modern dance to
children of all ages over the last 17 years. She is certified in
Children’s Yoga through Karma Kids Yoga NYC. Her special interests and
additional studies have been in Montessori education, Modern dance,
Contact Improvisation, Body-Mind Centering, Dance Composition and Yoga.
Michelle has also spent the last 5 years training in Capoeira.
ANDREA REDMAN –
has been teaching all disciplines of dance for 20 years. She directed
her own school in Michigan for 8 years and has served as the Children’s
Rehearsal Director for the Moscow Ballet’s “Great Russian Nutcracker”
since 2005. Ms. Redman taught at Steps on Broadway and at many other
schools in NY, NJ, CT, and MI. She danced professionally with the
Eglevsky Ballet, Tatiana Cabaret Show, Notara Dance Theatre, Russian
Ballet Theatre of Delaware, Ballet Theatre Pennsylvania and the Richmond
Ballet.Andrea also toured nationally in the Nutcracker
and several other productions. Ms. Redman has won several Choreography
Awards and her students have placed in the Top 12 at the Youth America
Grand Prix and have been invited to the Finals in NYC.Andrea’s
students are dancing on Broadway, with the Radio City Rockettes, on
Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines and on Automotion Dance Team (the official
dance team of the Detroit Pistons).Her students have also
performed with American Ballet Theatre, New York City Ballet, the
Joffrey Ballet, Pacific Northwest Ballet, the Cincinnati Ballet, Oregon
Ballet Theatre, Ballet Internationale and the Moscow Ballet. Ms. Redman
trained with many master teachers including Nancy Bielski, Suzi Taylor,
Joe Lanteri and Michael Vernon. She also studied with master teachers
from the Kirov Ballet School in Russia.Andrea received
full scholarships at Steps on Broadway, the Richmond Ballet School,
Princeton Ballet School and Pennsylvania Ballet Academy.
CATRIONA RUBENIS-STEVENS – was
born and raised in the UK. At 2yrs old she was put into ballet and from
there her love and passion for performing was born. She studied dance
under the IDTA, UK for over 15years, and voice and speech with the
London Academy of Music and Dramatic Arts. Catriona studied at the
American Academy of Dramatic Arts (AADA) in New York and has been an
employed actor/dancer and arts educator since the completion of her
training at AADA in 2009. She works steadily as a Director and
Choreographer in New York City and Northern New Jersey. She is a dancer
with the Performing Arts Workshop NJ, specializing in modern, lyrical
and tap and also works and studies at Broadway Dance Center in NYC.
In addition to her work as a performer and teacher, she has served as
Assistant Director on dozens of films, commercials and television
productions, working with some of the highest caliber talent in the
industry, including: Michelle Rodriguez (Avatar, Fast & Furious,
Resident Evil), Alec Baldwin (30 Rock), and Eric Roberts (Every movie
from the 1970's and 80's!!). She has directed several short films, and
was nominated for Best New Director at the BBC ALBA Film Festival in
Glasgow, Scotland. Catriona is the co-founder of Dare To Speak Productions, a theater
company that strives to make waves with political, powerful original
drama, written and produced by women from around the world.
KRISTA SAAB – most recently filmed an episode of the NBC hit show SMASH with Sean Hayes. She has appeared on Broadway in the Roundabout Theatre Company’s revival of Pal Joey and the Lincoln Center production of Camelot (PBS – Live from Lincoln Center). She has toured the US and Canada in the 1st National Tour of Young Frankenstein and worked as the Assistant Choreographer for the National Tour of DreamWorks Shrek.She has performed for 7 years as a Rockette at Radio City Music Hall in NY and appeared on such specials as the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade and The Ellen Degeneres Show. Krista’s career in both concert dance and theatre has taken her around the world performing in shows such as , 42nd Sreet, Carnival at the Kennedy Center in Washington, DC, The Producers at the Fabulous Fox Theatre in Atlanta, and the Ovation Award winning cast of Crazy for You. She has also performed with companies such as Aeolian Ballet Theatre/LA and Ballet Jorgen/Toronto. She has taught workshops at Radio City Music Hall and Broadway Dance Center in NY and has worked with legendary performers such as Stevie Wonder, Bon Jovi, Hinton Battle, Jason Alexander, Stockard Channing and Gabriel Byrne. Krista can also be seen on the instructional dance DVD titled “Hops Dance with Tyce Diorio and Krista Saab” and as a dancer in the feature films “The Great Observer” and “American Gangster”. She is also featured on the 75th Anniversary DVD of the Radio City Christmas Spectacular and is excited to be a part of the faculty at Next Step Broadway.
JENNIFER LEE CROWL – danced at Radio City as one of the Rockettes in the Radio City Christmas Spectacular, and is thrilled to be teaching the tiny tappers and ballerinas at Next Step Broadway. Jen Lee appeared on Broadway in the original cast of Young Frankenstein, and then toured with that show for one year. She was a dance captain on the first national tour of The Producers, and also performed in The Producers at the Paris Casino in Las Vegas. Her film and television credits include the PBS Great Performances rendition of Crazy for You, and the 2005 Universal remake of The Producers (Girl in Pearls, Little Old Lady). Jen Lee recently recreated the original Susan Stroman choreography of The Producers at Atlanta's Theater of the Stars, and Riverside Theatre in Vero Beach, Florida.
TIFFANY JAMES - is a New York City based actress, singer, director, and teaching artist. Tiffany recently finished directing Family Therapy: The Musical which was very well received at the West Village Musical Theater Festival. Recent acting credits include: Showtime Television's Mobile App commercial and an Off Broadway one act play series at the Producers Club Theater. Monthly, she can be seen as one of your favorite storybook characters at the Galli Fairytale Theater in Midtown Manhattan. Tiffany is also a company member of 68 Cent Theatre Crew and Love Creek Productions. Before joining Next Step Broadway she taught creative movement, gymnastics, circus, acting, and voice. She is also the creator of ActUpNYC a theatrical program designed for special needs children. Tiffany is very excited to be joining the Next Step Broadway team and the Jersey City community.
JOHN W. RHEA –Started performing at the age of 5 while training in multiple styles of acting, including studying under a student of Marcel Marceau. Having performed in over 20 musicals before he was 19, he headed out to get his BA in theatre from Pepperdine in Cali while pursuing his film career and acting in a few commercials and tv shows. The chance to perform Improv off-broadway with the AGVA show Eight is Never Enough brought him to NYC where he has been performing in various shows ever since, most notably as the crazy scientist "Nitro John" performing wacky science experiments for tens of thousands of kids. Favorite performance credits include Peter Pan Regional, The Jazz Singer with Metropolitan Playhouse Off-Off Broadway and The Letter "O" for the Onion Sports Network on Comedy Central.
Between shows, John works as a professional teaching artist at the top theatre camps in the world. A jack of all trades; he also has been a technical director and lighting designer running a season of shows; worked for 5 years backstage at a professional roadhouse (launching a cat across the stage with John Cleese was a highlight); and tutored extensively in Math, Science, and Reading. His favorite dance experience was as a back-up dancer for Ne-Yo in Times Square for the Kinect Launch. John Rhea is currently the Studio Manager at Next Step Broadway.
